| I think that Joe Roth was destined for something deeper in 'Freedomland'. It is not necessarily a bad film, but not really good either. Are acting in a point, is very solid, with performances by Samuel L. Jackson (Jackie Brown) as a police detective and determines Julianne Moore (The Forgotten) and Whacked-deadtime of the child's mother has been kidnapped. Edie Falco is also quite well with a role that is anything but Mrs. Soprano. The writing and dialogue, however, is absolutely terrible. I believe that 'Freedomland' is actually not a half bad movie, if the writer as much in the nature of the talks as it did the creativity of the racial epithets thrown throughout the movie. 'Freedomland' bothers me in that DVD movie Freedomland trailers made to be something that is not - a tense, mystery / suspense, when in fact it is a DivX Movie Freedomland about racial tensions and economic problems. "Freedomland" is pretentious in that it thinks is an Oscar caliber film, when in reality is a little above the average thriller full of tired cliches. "Freedomland" is nice if you can see through it the feeling of disbelief prejudices shine. Grade: C. (Screened at AMC Deer Valley 30, Phoenix, Arizona, 2/20/05) |
| I went to the preview screening in advance for this Freedomland Crime film - especially after seeing the promising trailer, and noting that Julianne Moore, Samuel L. Jackson and Edie Falco were the same. Unfortunately, without a doubt, this film: Freedomland is simply one of the worst I have ever seen. The script is inconsistent: Is it a thriller? a ghost story? an economic statement? a pseudo-psychological MOW? The actors seem to be characters from different movies that can not communicate with each other here is almost as if they were calling from different dimensions. Moore considers the performance of exaggerated and sometimes inconsistent - in a surprisingly flat against Jackson. The film: Freedomland is obvious and self-indulgent on the pretext of making an "important" political statement, but it feels forced and trite - and ends with a "twist" that is entirely predictable from the beginning. On the rare occasions when the message is clear, the matter is now, we have heard all this before. . . and much more fun and insightful ways. The Freedomland Crime film opens with a dramatic promise, but soon the wind - increasingly stale and boring as the minutes tick by. Do not approach you as hostages in a theater, a seat for this, if you are curious, wait for the DVD - but most likely will not see until the end. |
