Of course it is nowhere near the brilliance of "2001: A Space Odyssey," but I do not think the intention was never made. I think "2010" was made to resume the thread and answer some questions that "2001: A Space Odyssey" on the left. While "2001: A Space Odyssey" was more visual film, "2010" is actually a lot of dialogue, but that does not mean that the 2010 Sci-Fi movie is visually spectacular. The sets look beautiful and special effects have also improved greatly. The story is easier to follow and this is the best 2010 Sci-Fi to see a wider range of people and then "2001: A Space Odyssey" was. And I believe that even this DVD movie 2010 is nice to see, even if you have not seen "2001: A Space Odyssey." HAL fortunately still scared even though his role is less in the east. The space walk is in fact remains one of my favorite moments in DVD film 2010 history! The actions of the players are good, and the tension and the relationship between Americans and Russians are very good. Although not as bright, easy to see "2001: A Space Odyssey" 8 / 10
I was too young to "get" this 2010 Sci-Fi when it first came out, and I am glad not to see it again until I was 25, because they have not already achieved, much less care. Now I know what it means and it is a story that could have been told with puppets and paper mache and still had the same effect (unlike today's films that require a 90% and 10% of the effects of substances). I admit that I had to run to buy the book and to clarify things a bit more, but just a bigger fan of me. Kubrick was one of the greatest.
Mido science fiction movies after the amount of correction and scientific knowledge (with the exception of fun, but stupid science fiction as "Armageddon" and "Starship Troopers"), and if something is good enough for Clarke or Sagan, it's good enough for me. This sequel to "2001" is much less of a mystery and is not as tedious. It follows the book very well, until the fantastic ending that thrilled me beyond belief when I read that. I really wish that the rest of the series to be made into films, and especially 2064, which is a fantastic space adventure prohibited landing on the moon, which is mentioned in "2010", a rescue mission and an opportunity to get a couple to consider the biological experiment that manufacturers of stone have been carried out by "light" of Jupiter, not the second star of the Solar System. A good movie, no less, although overshadowed by his infamous prequel, is a little easier to see.
2010 certainly serves as a sequel to 2001. My problem is that - ironically, unlike in 2001 - 2010 is no more faithful to the original novel. The wonderful characterizations of the Russian crew are apparently lost in the film, which appears in two dimensions. In fact, none of the characters and forth across the screen as in the novel, with the exception of Roy Scheider (always a joy to see) and Helen Mirren - although his character is renamed in the novel (Orlov) to Kirbuk - a fairly obvious end game of a particular director's name, oh please ... An entire subplot of the book (the Chinese ship Tsien) is removed, and Clarke astute vision of America and Russia together in harmony is lost to useless Cold War scenario. Surely adds dramatic tension, but this kind of theater is not what the book is about. One of the Russian crew was killed in the movie, and to investigate the monolith - this does not happen in the novel. Worst of all, one of the books' best characters - Dr. Katerina Rudenko, becomes a man. However, Peter Hyams has given a good sci-fi thriller.
Spoilers here. Kubrick in "2001" DVD film 2010 becomes richer over time. While countless successors copy photos and visual devices, they miss the genius is completely visual and asks more questions than answers. Let newly refined our minds active, sharpened our imagination. How sad then to re-experience this film. It copies some visual elements of Kubrick, and then added the magic of the state of the art. But what makes soullessly. Everything in this 2010 Sci-Fi is explained, and explained in the most tedious, uncinematic way - by someone talking to us. It is sad and lifeless and we are at the root of all beings above us only to our misery. Kubrick was the magic he invested their living environment. Then he becomes the narrative to be just as Altman does with his actors. Although many people do not get it, Depalma the "Mission to Mars" is a worthy successor "of 2002." This soft material of 2 "2010" is gelatinous.
