Magnolia is the study of nine lives in one day in San Fernando Valley, California. These nine lives all connect and revolve around the game show 'What Do Kids Know?'(WDKK), where a team of three kids play against adults and everytime the show is on, there is a new team of adults and the kids remain; if they won the previous game. Earl Partridge (the late Jason Robards) produced 'WDKK' when it was first on in the late 60s. He is dying of brain and lung cancer and is being taken care of by Phil Parma (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a male nurse. Linda, Earl's trophy wife (Julianne Moore) starts to fall in love with Earl for real, despite her cheating. Earl, rapidly dying on his bed, asks Phil to find his estranged son, Frank T.J. Mackey (Tom Cruise), who grew up hating Earl and now runs a seminar for single men, which teaches them how to seduce a woman and leave her... The host of 'WDKK', Jimmy Gator (Philip Baker Hall), is also dying, but not as rapidly as Earl. He has a very rocky relationship with his daughter Claudia (Melora Waters), who sniffs crack 24/7 and accuses her father of sexually molesting her. Police Officer Jim (John C. Reilly) goes to Claudia's house after getting called about a disturbance. He falls in love with her right away... Stanley Specter (Jeremy Blackman) is a contestant on 'WDKK', who is a genius and is being used by his father to make money. If Stanley and his team keep winning, they will set a record on the show and get tons of money. The record Stanley is trying to beat is the 1968 record set by Donnie Smith (William H. Macy), who had the exact same childhood when he was on the show and has now grown up to be a pathetic loser. He's been recently fired from his job, and is trying to find his way into happiness...

| More than three hours and not pass a value of these characters are dying or going through any life-changing epiphony. After a few agonizing hours to see that bad people just bad decisions that will bring more pain and unhappiness in the world, frogs fall from the sky. I really do not, a lot of frogs, frog intestine filled with heavy rain in the frame and the characters seem to think that this sort of thing is perfectly normal. At first I do not get this movie, my pretentious DVD film Magnolia aficionado friends convinced me to take another look more open minded. Now I understand that the best DVD film Magnolia I stand by my initial assessment that it was a painful loss of my time. |
| I know there is a profound message here ... or was supposed to be. However, it was just a painful 3 hours of flashbacks, personal discovery, encounters obvious. Many of the actors, who otherwise talented hole played stereotypical versions of his characters: The motivational speaker, the abused child, the blessed ignorance wife, the television star alcoholic. The list actually goes, but I think I'm getting bored just writing down. As I assume the fault is in the direction and writing. Never ceases to amaze me that managers can attract the caliber of actor for this type of supposedly "artistic" and significant film. All in vain attempts to be "significant" only a memory that is not Citizen Kane - and there is no Rosebud. |
| I respect the work of Anderson. However, I think it is great. In fact, it seems to me more acute distress .... In some cases, anxiety is well developed in others it is tedious, long, unsupported and unbelievable anguish. I think Anderson is the strong demand that is suffering, but the characters are so weird and off the wall, I find it hard to sympathize with them at all. I liked the performance cruising and performance Ramsey. The Magnolia movie is too long and the end leaves much to be desired. I imagine the frogs were winking Anderson andalusia magic realism. I wish I had not. |
| That is what this film: Magnolia is about "strange things happen all the time" are the best ways I can think of to describe the plot of the film. The story of a dozen people in an incredible day in a very wet valley in the Magnolia Avenue. I could list reason after reason after reason why this is one of the best movies I've ever seen ... It really could. From the fact that each member cast gives an Oscar-worthy performance, the fact that this Magnolia movie has more than 10 amazing footage I've never seen before and probably will never see again in any film. This movie: Magnolia is my highest recommendation and a final 10. I see it now, and watch as many times as possible. |
| I rented this Magnolia movie from Blockbuster without knowing anything about it. I was hooked from the opening scene until the last frame and was sad to see the final film. Character development, plot, and acting is superb. I have touched on many levels and felt almost every emotion at one time or another. The characters seem so real to me that I was very difficult to imagine a film: Magnolia that had the same high level of character development in all areas. The only negative comment I can say is that I felt like there were a couple loose ends, when the DVD movie Magnolia finished. But this may have been intentional and was a minor flaw in a very thin Magnolia movie otherwise. Even Tom Cruise reached new levels as an actor in this film. I gave him a 9 out of 10 just because 10 is a perfect once in a lifetime of DivX film Magnolia in my opinion. A must see for lovers of serious dramatic films. |
| The coincidence of developments is noteworthy, by definition, only when events occur in reality! They are, for me at least, a much less impressive when built intentionally as the script of a work of fiction. I mean, hell, why not throw in a couple of winning lottery tickets, while your word processor of hot? Frog shower was fun - but too little too late to rescue three hours of boredom sentence. Forgive my sarcasm here, but: "Hey, look! That character does not get along with his father, either! What a coincidence!" Who told me to do this thing, anyway ... |
| PT Anderson Magnolia maintained the tradition of films that can or can not be explained. We see 3 hours of travel in the San Fernando Valley with intertwined stories that are linked by fate, coincidence and blood. The stars of these stories are Tom Cruise, Jason Robards, Melora Waters, Melinda Dillon, Julianne Moore, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Philip Baker Hall, John C. Reiley, Alfred Molina, Ricky Jay, Jeremy Blackman, and William H. Macy. Not everything in the Magnolia Drama film is strange, just to frogs (if I may have explained that I really like this film). However, many things in this Magnolia movie as I did, and is memorable in the tradition of Anderson, Boogie Nights. One of the best films of the year. Look for Luis Guzmán as a contestant on a game show. A + |
| This DivX film Magnolia comes along like zapping the channels on television. No matter how hard you try, there is no way to understand the many loose ends of the thread uncountable. Although it reminded me of Robert Altman "Shortcuts" that lacks the genius behind the development of this movie. Confused, hysterical, a great soundtrack (sometimes) and the cast of outstanding performance describe this movie: Magnolia better. And leeeengthy. After the end you look on the face of its neighbor, confusing, and see the same expression. Maybe I needed to see this thread-jumping 5 times on the images to get a vision of what the makers say. But sorry, no, no, no. What a waste of time and money that would be! Sorry for the great performance of the actors. |
